Governor Experience

I was a staff Governor at my previous school for 21 years. As part of a Multi-Academy Trust, I also contributed to the support and training of Governors in other schools across the partnership.

Professional Experience

My teaching career began at Hill West Infant School in 1997, initially teaching in Year 1, then in Early Years. After a while, this school amalgamated with Hill West Junior School and became Hill West Primary School and I widened my teaching experience to include Key Stage 2. I remained at this school for 21 amazing years, gaining a wealth of experiences as a class teacher in all year groups, Curriculum Leader, SENCo, Deputy Headteacher and Acting Headteacher. Whilst in my Deputy post, I actively sought opportunities for professional development such as supporting a school in special measures as part of The Birmingham Education Partnership, developing the Initial Teacher Training programme in a Teaching School Alliance and, in 2018 I completed a Masters in Educational Leadership.

I first visited Whittington Primary School in December 2017, when the post of Headteacher was advertised. I immediately fell in love with the ethos of the school and was successfully appointed as Headteacher in January 2018. Although I was extremely sad to leave a school that I had worked in for 21 years, I felt extremely privileged to be starting a new adventure at Whittington. Our journey of continuous improvement has been exciting, and it is a pleasure to come to school every day to work with a dedicated and committed team of staff and alongside articulate, confident pupils who make me proud every single day!

Personal Interests

My childhood in Liverpool was filled with adventure, freedoms and dance. This was my passion. At the age of three, my mum took me to The Mary Leonard School of Dance to combat my shyness. I’m not sure that this was very successful, but I certainly developed a love of ballet, tap and modern dance. This was further enhanced when the dancing school was taken over by Loretta Legge when I was 11. Loretta was a world renowned dancer and choreographer, a true inspiration and a tough task master! Whilst others went on to train in the top London Theatre Schools, my journey took a different direction and, after taking my professional dance exams, I then went on to gain my teaching exams and taught classes for Loretta up until my university days.

Nowadays, my world exists around family life. I have two teenage children and we all share a passion for the outdoors. We love walking in the countryside and visiting new places here and abroad.
